Gardeners Hanworth Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps Gardeners Hanworth has taken, and continues to take, to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our operations and supply chains. We are committed to conducting our gardening and landscape services ethically, responsibly, and in accordance with all applicable labour and human rights laws.
Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy
Gardeners Hanworth has a clear zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and child labour. This applies to every aspect of our business, including our directly employed staff and any workers engaged through third parties. We will not knowingly engage with any supplier, contractor, or partner who is involved in, or who turns a blind eye to, such practices.
All managers and team leaders are responsible for promoting this zero-tolerance policy and ensuring that it is embedded in day-to-day decision making, from recruitment through to procurement and project delivery.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Gardeners Hanworth provides gardening, grounds maintenance, and related services. Our supply chains primarily include providers of plants, soils, tools, machinery, uniforms, and other horticultural products and services. While our operations are relatively local, we recognise that some products may originate from higher-risk regions and therefore require careful scrutiny.
We expect all suppliers and contractors to uphold labour standards that are consistent with our own values and with international human rights principles. We communicate these expectations during supplier onboarding and through ongoing engagement.
Supplier Standards and Audits
To support our zero-tolerance stance, Gardeners Hanworth is implementing a risk-based supplier due diligence and audit process. Suppliers are required to confirm that they do not use forced, bonded, or involuntary labour and that they comply with all relevant employment legislation in the countries where they operate.
Where we identify higher-risk categories of goods or services, we may undertake additional checks, request evidence of labour standards, and conduct site visits where practical. If we discover non-compliance, we will work with the supplier on corrective actions within clear timeframes. Where serious or repeated violations occur, we reserve the right to terminate the business relationship.
Recruitment and Employment Practices
All recruitment at Gardeners Hanworth is carried out in a fair and transparent manner. Workers are free to leave their employment with reasonable notice, are not required to pay recruitment fees, and are provided with clear information about their roles, pay, and working conditions.
We verify the identity and right to work of our employees, ensure wages meet or exceed legal minimums, and maintain safe working conditions. We do not tolerate any form of intimidation, coercion, or abuse in the workplace.
Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing Channels
Gardeners Hanworth encourages anyone who becomes aware of possible modern slavery or human trafficking in our business or supply chain to raise their concerns. Employees can report issues directly to their line manager or to senior management. Concerns may also be raised in writing or verbally, and can be made anonymously where this is feasible.
We are committed to investigating all reports sensitively and promptly. No one who raises a concern in good faith will suffer any retaliation or detrimental treatment as a result of speaking up.
Training and Awareness
We aim to raise awareness of modern slavery risks among our staff, particularly those involved in procurement, recruitment, and site supervision. Training and guidance are provided so that employees can recognise signs of exploitation and know how to respond appropriately.
As our business grows, we will review and enhance our training materials to reflect emerging risks, legal developments, and best practice in tackling modern slavery.
Monitoring, Annual Review, and Continuous Improvement
This Modern Slavery Statement will be reviewed annually by the leadership of Gardeners Hanworth. The review will consider the effectiveness of our actions, the outcomes of any supplier audits, any concerns raised through our reporting channels, and developments in law or industry standards.
Where improvements are identified, we will update our policies, procedures, and controls accordingly. Our aim is to ensure that Gardeners Hanworth continues to operate as a responsible business that actively works to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in all that we do.
This statement has been approved by the leadership of Gardeners Hanworth and represents our ongoing commitment to ethical labour practices and respect for human rights.
